My name is Douglas Yazzie and I am of the Dine’ Nation (Navajo Nation). I reside in Canyon del Muerto, a part of Canyon de Chelly, east of Chinle, Arizona. I have been painting and drawing since I was six years old and remember using the brown paper bags from the trading post as my sketch pads. I have never been to art school and my talent has been developed through self-taught skills. I work in different mediums; painting, contemporary jewelry, and folk art carvings. I also coach boxing, and I do consultant work with schools around the reservation. I have been married for forty two years and we have four sons and eight grandchildren. My work is displayed and collected throughout the world.
